Highland Animal Oil Pastel Prints
These adorable prints are all animals that are native to the Scottish Highlands. Far from Ai, these prints were created using oil pastels for my husband’s home office. So many people requested one that I bought a scanner specifically to be able to bring these to the rest of the world. Now you can have one for your home too.
Meet Felicity the Mountain Hare. Felicity lives in a beautiful mound of heather in the Scottish Highlands. She is quite a shy little leveret (baby hare), but she loves flowers. On a sunny day you can see her running through the heather and gorse searching for some clover flowers to nibble on. Mountain hares symbolise transformation and are believed to be connected to the fairy worlds. Some traditions viewed them as guides between the worlds. They are also sacred to the deities associated with the moon, fertility and the hunt: Cerridwen, Freya, and Diana. Like all mountain hares, Felicity can change from brown to white. She likes to accessorize accordingly.

Meet Hamish the Highland Cow. Hamish is a fine young gentleman and inherently Scottish through and through. He walks gently through his favourite Highland fields and looks out for everyone. He's always giving people a reason to smile. Highland cows represent so much. They are often depicted as magical fairy cattle that bring prosperity and protection. Even today they are viewed as keepers of ancient wisdom and symbols of the untamed Scottish Highlands. Hamish is still very young and not so sure about being full of ancient wisdom, but if you bring him home he's sure to always look out for you.

Meet Finlay the Fox. As a fox from the Scottish Highlands, Finlay is much larger than the foxes found down south. He is very much a nocturnal gentleman, and is active throughout the long winter nights. After a surreptitious jaunt around the rocky terrain he enjoys coming home to his favourite rock crevice and hot cup of tea. While most people think foxes are only cunning tricksters, Finlay is more of a wise guide. He represents intelligence and adaptability. He is a reminder to use your wits and have a bit of fun, even in a tricky situation.

Meet Bertie the Otter. Bertie lives in a beautiful little burn in the Scottish Highlands. He loves to go for a morning swim, and nearly always has fish for breakfast. He is a very dapper otter, and never leaves home without his monocle. Otters symbolise joy, playfulness, and curiosity. They represent a light-hearted approach to life and delight in everyday moments. Like all otters, Bertie is a social creature, and is looking for new friends.

Meet Rosie the Lamb. Rosie lives very close, in fact she lives right in front of our house. She is a gentle and playful little lamb and loves sleeping under the stars. On a sunny day you can find her bouncing about in her favourite dress with all her friends. Lambs symbolize innocence and the promise of spring. Highland folklore suggests that white houses were traditionally painted white to mimic sheep flocks belonging to sleeping ancient giant farmers. Rosie lives in front of one of those white houses! While Rosie may appear a bit shy, she is ever so playful and fun with those that make her feel safe. Sometimes she'll even come to the fence in the morning to show off her flower crowns.
